JeftaDavid.com was created out of a desire to have a space where I, Jefta David Huiskamp (1997), could showcase my projects, essentially a portfolio, and connect with others who share similar interests.
For years, I struggled to find my professional path. At eighteen, with limited options, I started working at a metal processing company as a CNC press brake operator. At the time, I didn’t think metalworking was for me, but surprisingly, the opposite turned out to be true. Through that company, I met the right people who gave me the opportunity to earn my diplomas, something I’m still very grateful for, and I finally found direction in life. Metalworking became more than just a job; it opened up a world of possibilities.
Soon after, I became interested in learning CAD software, which allowed me to develop and bring ideas to life. I’m still learning every day, but thanks to both formal education and hands-on experience in my current job, I’ve gained more skills than I ever expected.
Today, I work as an engineer at a door manufacturing company, where I focus on maintaining and developing both existing and new components, ensuring they move through the production process more efficiently and intelligently.
My journey in the sheet metal industry also sparked a dream: to one day build a car inspired by the craftsmanship of the pre-war era. While visiting a model shop in my hometown (Winterswijk, Netherlands), I came across a scale model of a Bugatti Type 35 by CMC Modelcars, and I instantly knew, that’s the car I want to try to build.
Two years later, in 2021, I began working on that idea in the form of a cyclekart, a small, ~75% scale kart inspired by classic race cars. After a year and a half of work, I completed it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was enough to realize that this is what truly makes me happy.
In the years ahead, I hope to continue learning and growing, with the ultimate goal of building a roadworthy car, perhaps starting with just the bodywork on an existing chassis.
